VRAYFORC4D · THE ARCHITECT’S RENDERBOOK

This is my cover image for my new book on VRayforC4D, showing an exterior rendering of House Moller by Adolf Loos in Vienna. No Postwork, just C4D and VRay work.

RENDERING OF HOUSE MOLLER BY ADOLF LOOS, VIENNA

VRAYFORC4D: THE ARCHITECT’S RENDERBOOK

It’s done! The exterior of Haus Moller by Adolf Loos is ready – now goodbye to SketchUp, on for Cinema 4D and VRay texturing, HDRI lighting and rendering to get my bookcover ready at last.
Hope to make good use of my RT HDRI STAGE for a nice lightset. And looking for cherry trees ;-)

RT HDRI STAGE 1.0

I updated may VRayforC4D HDRI rig, its now called RT HDRI STAGE 1.0. You may again download and use it for free.
As new feature I added Gamma adjustments for the HDRI light and Environment Background Image slots. I was brought to this idea by Bertrand Benoit and Peter Guthrie who describe how lowering HDRI (and other imagery) Gamma enhances contrast and specifically generates more distinct shadow images.

The HDRI I use as 2nd example in the tutorial video above is from Ronen Bekerman.

Here are two sample images, the first with my previous set and then with reduced Gamma in RT HDRI STAGE 1.0:

Gamma = 1.0 (Default)

MY FREE VRAYFORC4D HDRI DOME RIG

Image Based Lighting (IBL) using HDRI is an amazingly easy way to light a scene – renders are fast and real-life-color distribution comes for free. Cinema 4D and VRay’s supply us with high standard IBL but, as you might have experienced, this comes at the price of some major search-and-find work when checking and tuning all those decisive parameters throughout various C4D and VRay tags and tabs to reach the results you want.

Inspired by Nick Campbell and Chris Schmidt from greyscalegorilla I thought about simplifying this for me and built a neat tab offering just the options and parameters I use every time when adjusting an HDRI. The result is an easy to use HDRI Dome rig which will fit every exterior scene. Just download Rendertalk Scenefiles, move the decompressed file into your C4D Lib folder and start testing out your HDRI collection the easy way. See my movie to see how to use my HDRI Dome rig. Have fun!

Just to mention: the HDRI I use as default in my rig is a free sample from dutchskies – don’t hesitate to pay them a visit!

VRAYFORC4D PROXIES UPDATE

Just a reminder – as I posted earlier I promised to show how VRay’s proxy feature is used to render object clones in reasonable time. See my videos further down how it can be done – actually I’m not mentioning proxies at all since all you have to do to make use of this algorithm you have to check “render instances” when cloning objects in Cinema 4D – VRayforC4D does the rest internally.

C4D+VRAY: CREATING A 3D WOOD PT.2

Creating a 3D wood scenery in Cinema 4D is easily done with XFrog objects and the Cloner tool – but what to do when viewport idleness and render times go berserk? See my video how to arrange and render 3D trees without getting mad. Part 2 explains how to handle a bunch of 3D XFrog tree clones and choose suitable VRay render options for test and final.
